Lance LaRue, Creative Director of Americom Marketing, served as guest speaker at Lamar University this January 31st, sharing insights and expertise on the topic: The Art of Social Media Etiquette.
The presentation included the importance of representing one’s self or one’s brand through social media activity along with tips and resources to use for establishing and maintaining a branded social media presence.
LaRue’s 30-minute delivery consisted of a personal branding perspective, emphasizing brand values and commitments that serve as directional guides and filters to content, strategy, and consistency online. Included were samples of his content strategy work from his role with Capital One Small Business, samples of social media engagements from other individuals and company brands, statistics and fundamentals of four major social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn), funny scenarios of right and wrong execution, and a list of helpful to-dos and resources to learn or follow.
LaRue was happy to share the spotlight with Amanda Prince, Social Media and Brand Manager at Americom Marketing, pointing her out during the presentation to showcase some of the best practices and successes his team executes with social media. “She is excellent at creating and managing valuable content for our clients,” he says.
The event is part of an annual series from a collaborative effort from the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, Southeast Texas Young Professionals Organization, and Lamar University Alumni. Attendees and members represent university students looking to develop career opportunities, young business professionals looking to network, consultants and freelancers, and established area business owners and representatives looking to connect.
“Lamar University Alumni put on an outstanding event…truly wonderful hosts. The new Reaud Building is just beautiful, and LU’s exceptional hospitality made it even better. I’m grateful at the opportunity to join these friendly folks and ramble on about topics that matter to me—branding and social media marketing,” says LaRue.
The event began with a sponsored service of professional head shots/photography followed by a beautiful array of hors d’oeuvres and drinks. Director of Alumni Affairs of Lamar University, Shannon Figueroa, gave the introduction to the guest speaker and concluded the evening with door prizes and gifts.
